Vegan privilege part two:

So the only responses I got to my previous post were about how cheap veges are… and I totally agree. Sadly - the price of food was not what the post was about. I agree that vegan foods are cheaper than animal products. There is no mystery or question there. In fact - I thought it was so obvious that I didn’t feel the need to mention it because I assumed my fellow vegans would understand this.

All I was saying is that the people who use the ‘privilege defense’ are not in any kind of harship and most likely trying to create a distraction argument as to why they choose to be immoral. WHY this statement automates the response about veges being cheap… I’m not sure why.

While I feel that a huge population of the world could be vegan if they chose it  and that there isn’t anything very difficult, time consuming or expensive about being a vegan…. I still don’t feel that I am entitled to speak upon everyone’s behalf. I CAN NEVER know everyone’s situation and while I doubt there are many situations that make it impossible to be vegan, there is a chance that there are a few…. but this is not important to my point.

The point is: I think almost everyone should be and can be vegan and that for the majority of people who aren’t, this ‘privilege defense’ is something useful to put between themselves and the responsibilities associated with fueling the pain and suffering of animals. I was actually PULLING DOWN the privilege defense, and attempting to show from a different angle why it doesn’t work, REGARDLESS of the cost of food. But ofcourse, everyone just wants to talk about the price of food still….

  2. driftingdruid answered: No, the biggest reason to not be vegan is because people don’t want to change who they are and their lifestyles. They prefer stagnant lives.
